      J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon, Jamie, Diamond Mountain District, Napa Valley – 2014

      Jeb Dunnuck
      96 Points

One of the gems is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Jamie, which is named after the founder of the estate and is a barrel selection. This medium to full-bodied, incredibly layered and seamless Cabernet offers a beautiful perfume of red and black fruits, dried earth, bay leaf, and spice cake aromas. It’s perfectly balanced, has no hard edges, and will keep for 2+ decades.

      95 Points

The Davies family purchased the Diamond Mountain Vineyards in 1965, replanted it to Bordeaux varieties in 1994. This is the wine’s 16th vintage. A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot, it spent 22 months in 62% new French oak. The opulence on the nose shows off dark chocolate and savory herbs, leather and blackberry. Lush and round on the mouth, this curvy, earthy red offers up cinnamon and cumin, and a hint of spearmint. Fruit is black and lathered with black licorice.

Pinot Noir, Ferrington Vineyards, Anderson Valley – 2017

      The Tasting Panel
      94 Points

From the folks who brings us Schramsberg Vineyards, this eighth vintage of the Davies family Pinot Noir is stunning. A nose of sweet cherry and rose petals leads to a delicate mouthfeel. Whispering clues of sweet tobacco, salted strawberry jam and a finish of tilled soil shows balance and depth.

      J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon, Jamie, Diamond Mountain District, Napa Valley – 2015

      The Wine Advocate
      93-95+ Points

This is a barrel selection of the best barrels, accounting for around 300 cases. This wine was tasted as a barrel sample. The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Jaime displays a deep garnet-purple color and nose of plum preserves, crème de cassis, mocha and licorice with hints of blueberry pie, Chinese five spice, black soil and pepper. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and wonderfully decadent, it has a firm backbone of fine-grained tannins supporting the generous fruit, finishing on a spicy note.
