Born in Treviso in 1966, Gianluca Bisol studied Marketing and Economics at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and Sociology of Communications at Urbino. To build on this education and enhance his wine knowledge, he has also taken part in numerous professional tasting courses.
In his role as president of Bisol, Gianluca carries on the time-honored tradition of his family. Like generations before him, he leads the Prosecco and Cartizze estate well-known for the production of award-winning sparkling wines; Cru Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, Superiore di Cartizze and Spumanti Talento Metodo Classico. The Bisol family continues to manage 20 of the finest vineyard plots in the upper hills of the appellation. Thanks to Gianluca’s great passion and entrepreneurial spirit, he has managed, with great success, to bring Bisol and Jeio Prosecco onto the world stage. He believes Prosecco’s strength lies not in being considered a status symbol, but rather a lifestyle symbol, as it perfectly represents a modern and informal way of living.
Together with the family, Gianluca has also restored the ancient, walled estate of Venissa on the island of Mazzorbo Burano. The island, located in the heart of the Lagoon of Venice, is an emblem of native Venice. Building on tradition, Gianluca and his family have worked hard to replant the historical estate with the indigenous Venetian grape Dorona. This almost-forgotten variety was once used to make the ancient wine loved by the Doges of Venice. Supplied by the property’s bountiful vegetable gardens and orchards, the estate also plays host to a restaurant and a charming and well-lauded resort.
“We work tirelessly with passion so that Conegliano might gain the same prestige as Reims, Valdobbiadene the same charm as Epernay and Prosecco the same notoriety as Champagne.”
