  • Vineyard Profile

    • Owned by Tim and Angela Coddington, this vineyard is located between the towns of Huapai and Waimauku in Kumeu. Planted on a clay-based hillside with narrow trellising, the Chardonnay from this block is consistently weighty and powerful with richness and length. The grapes from Coddington have been used in the Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay since 1998. In 2006, the winery decided to give Coddington single-vineyard status to reflect this vineyard’s unique character.

Reviews

  • Kumeu River Coddington Chardonnay – 2014 – James Suckling – 94 Points

Much fresher than the Estate chardonnay of this vintage, this has lots of ripe pear character and generous body, but remains restrained. The further you ride the graceful, long finish, the more complete the overall impression becomes. Drink or hold.

  • Chardonnay, Coddington, Kumeu – 2014 – 94 points, Top 50 New Zealand Wines of 2016, #34 – jamessuckling.com

“… pristine fruit ripeness, opening to white-peach aromas and a flinty edge. The palate's smoothly crafted, and the acidity keeps everything attractive in terms of beautiful stone-fruit flavors ... So much great freshness and resolve.”

  • Chardonnay, Coddington, Kumeu – 2014 – 93 points – Wine Spectator Insider

“Precise and appealing, with lemongrass and thyme accents to the pear, lemon and honeydew melon flavors, set on a sleek, crisp frame. Notes of peppery white flower, spice and green tea linger on the finish…”
