  • Vintage Report

    • Remembering the 2017 harvest now is a bit surreal due to the loss and destruction of the multiple fires that started the evening of Sunday, October 8th. The Bordeaux varietal harvest had started in the warmer areas and grapes were in tank fermenting when the fires started. Most wineries lost power, employees were evacuated from their homes and honestly making wine wasn’t the highest priority. The fires raged in and around Napa for about six days and then we were allowed back into wineries to check on our abandoned ferments, and amazingly they were beautiful! A little neglect is good for a wine. We were able to then cull out the vineyards that would have smoke taint and harvest the rest. The 2017 RouteStock Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon derives from vineyards in Yountville, Stag’s Leap, St. Helena and Rutherford.

  • Tasting Notes

    • The ensuing wine is amazingly complex and classic Napa Valley. The aroma is cedar, cola, dark black fruit and just a kiss of oak. The pallet is round, expansive, bright and complex with flavors of cocoa, coffee, fruit and herbs. The wine fills the mouth but isn’t dominated by any one element and finishing amazingly bright for Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the great joys of making Cabernet is blending the wine before bottling and this wine was so very fun to combine just the right amount of Cabernet Sauvignon with its power, Cabernet Franc for the beautiful wild aroma and flavor, a touch of Merlot for the dusty plum character, Malbec for violet notes and Petit Verdot for color and tannin.
