Jancis Robinson: California is Fizzing Again featuring Schramsberg

Jancis Robinson: California is Fizzing Again featuring Schramsberg

"There'a a renaissance of sparkling wine production in the golden state." "But then in 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies purchased the historic Schramsberg property on Napa's Diamond Mountain with the goal of producing world-class California sparkling wine, producing the country's first vintage-dated blanc de noirs in 1967. Schramsberg's success with high-quality sparkling wine was undeniable, and no doubt helped to fuel the expansion of the category that would take place over the next 20 years." "'I think they've really made it more practical for some of these new producers to exist and to do the work', says Schramsberg CEO Hugh...

Newsweek: American-Made Sparkling Wine as Rich in History as it is in Taste–Meet Schramsberg Vineyards

"The rolling hills of Napa Valley drenched in vibrant shades of green and mustard spill across the vast openness, dotted with happy little trees along the winding roads to Schramsberg vineyards. Colorful flowers line enchanting streams and ponds, while the rows and rows of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines seem endless. The sight is utterly breathtaking, like the living, thriving splendor of a Bob Ross scenescape. It’s no wonder the sparkling wine produced on Schramsberg’s 66 properties across the Northern Californian coast is equally enthralling. The beauty of the land the vineyards occupy is noticeable in every glass of Blanc de...

Town & Country: The Best Champagne and Sparkling Wines for Mimosas – Featuring Bisol and Schramsberg

Town and Country's Sam Dangremond and Lauren Hubbard are recommending 10 of their favorite sparkling wines for the classic brunch cocktail. Bisol  and Schramsberg are prominently featured! Bisol Valdobbiandene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Crede "Don't waste champagne on mimosas," says Steven McDonald, wine director at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse Houston Galleria. "Use a high-quality cava or prosecco like Naveran Cava or Bisol Prosecco. The orange juice will cover up the nuance of the sparkling wine, but you'll be grateful for not choosing something that's going to cause a headache later in the afternoon."   Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut "For American sparkling wine, it doesn't...

Schramsberg’s Hugh Davies Looks To Vintage-Dated Sparklers And Still Wine

In recent years, the domestic sparkling wine category has taken off, with brands priced around $15 leading the charge. Now, as the category nears the 11-million-case mark in the U.S., California-based luxury sparkling wine producer Schramsberg is looking to turn consumers’ eyes to even higher price points. Altogether, Schramsberg produces around 85,000 cases of sparkling wine annually, with the flagship Blanc de Blancs ($35) its largest seller at 35,000 cases. Wilson Daniels handles Schramsberg’s distribution in the U.S. “There aren’t many domestic producers of ultra-premium sparkling wines,” says Schramsberg president and CEO Hugh Davies. “We’re slowly building a fan base...

Mirabelle Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine North Coast

Mirabelle Brut Rosé Sparkling Wine North Coast

"Do you like your sparkling wines more fruity than yeasty and nutty? Deliciously fresh red fruits are at your service in this Mirabelle Brut Rosé by Schramsberg. Hand a glass of Mirabelle to anyone coming over for dinner, and the evening will be a success. Even if you overcook the chicken. "Mirabelle Brut Rosé is a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir. Why are these two grape varieties often blended together for sparkling? They are two of the three grape varieties used in Champagne production (the third is Meunier), but it is not just that. Chardonnay brings citrus fruits, finesse...

Jack Tognetti at 100: A farmer’s perspective on grapes and the good life

Jack Tognetti at 100: A farmer’s perspective on grapes and the good life

"According to John F. “Jack “ Tognetti, owner of the Aloise Francisco Vineyards in Los Carneros, the secret to a long life is moderation, hard work and a little wine. “People who eat too much or who run on concrete put too much stress on their bodies,” Tognetti said on the patio of his Los Carneros home just south of the town of Napa. “The key is moderation and being good to your body, but it’s also important to get out there and do some physical work every day — our bodies and minds were made for working. I eat...

Davies Vineyards tasting room also pours Schramsberg bubbly

Davies Vineyards tasting room also pours Schramsberg bubbly

"With its locally quarried stone exterior, the two-story building looks as if it’s always been there, but the Grayson Building, the tasting room in St. Helena that serves both the J. Davies red wines and Schramsberg sparkling wines, is brand, spanking new, and comes with a few ancient surprises sprinkled throughout inside. "Guests of Davies Vineyards’ wine tastings will get not only an introduction to the Davies’ family wines – both their J. Davies Estate red wines and Schramsberg sparkling wines – they will also get to tour the building that could double as an art museum thanks to the...
