This is a light-bodied but backed by focused acidity and streamlined flavors of pure cherry and raspberry that are tangy and spicy.

A brooding style, with steeped cherry and raspberry gelée notes, supported by licorice and floral details that are matched to savory hints of herb and black tea on the structured finish. Drink now through 2024. 500 cases made, 20 cases imported.

Shimmering purple. Assertive, smoke-accented aromas of fresh dark berries, violet, licorice and exotic spices. Energetic black raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors show impressive depth, and a spine of smoky minerality adds lift and delineation. Turns sweeter on the youthfully tannic, penetrating finish, which hangs on with strong, floral-driven tenacity.

Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. A highly complex bouquet evokes an array of red/blue fruits, flowers and spices, along with hints of vanilla, mocha and licorice. Stains the palate with sweet boysenberry, candied plum and violet pastille flavors that are underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. Delivers a suave blend of power and finesse and shows no rough edges. Closes on a smoky note, with steadily building tannins, a touch of bitter cherry and impressive tenacity.

Opaque ruby. Powerful cherry and blackberry aromas pick up smoky mineral and floral qualities as the wine opens up. Weighty, in the manner of the vintage, but showing very good energy as well, offering gently sweet black currant, cherry and violet pastille flavors that firm up slowly on the back half. Dusty tannins come in late on the finish, which hangs around with suave floral and spice notes. This wine is quite civilized both for the appellation and for the vintage.

Opaque ruby. Vibrant, mineral-accented cherry and dark berry scents pick up notes of succulent herbs, Moroccan spices, vanilla and candied flowers with air. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering densely packed black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors that are complemented by five-spice powder and mocha nuances. Closes extremely long and spicy, with resonating dark fruit preserve character and velvety tannins that fade steadily into the wine's juicy fruit. Give this one some patience as the oak is standing out a bit right now.

Brilliant violet color. Pungent, spice-accented red/blue fruit and floral scents are lifted by a smoky mineral nuance that gains strength with air. Offers palate-staining black raspberry, boysenberry and mocha flavors that show excellent clarity and back-end thrust. Finishes sappy, sweet and impressively long, with a repeating floral note and smooth, well-judged tannins.

This strikes a good balance between elegance and power, with floral notes weaving through raspberry reduction and cherry tart flavors.

Concentrated ripe cherry and raspberry compote notes are lined with licorice, orange peel, fresh leather and dried herb elements in this broad, light-bodied red, with accents of dried violet, tea and mineral echoing on the lightly tannic finish. Drink now through 2022.

Lurid ruby. Fresh raspberry, blood orange and potpourri scents are complemented by white pepper and smoky mineral nuances. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering appealingly sweet red berry and peppery spice flavors and a hint of candied lavender. Shows very good energy and definition on the subtly tannic finish, which hangs on with strong, tangy persistence.

Notes of pomegranate, raspberry and plum introduce the 2016 Moulin-à-Vent Couvent des Thorins, a medium-bodied, open-knit and mouthwateringly saline wine with tangy acids, fine tannins and an open-knit, rounded profile. Matured almost entirely in tank and consequently unmarked by the oak influence that inflects the domaine's grander bottlings, its purity and transparency a

The 2016 Moulin-à-Vent displays aromas of red berry fruit and creamy recently used oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, firm and concentrated palate that appears to lack a little depth and dimension.

From a lieu-dit that's richer in clay, the 2016 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour displays a bouquet of earthy, spicy plums and red fruit, framed by recently used oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with an ampler, fleshier profile than Les Vérillats, its initially chewy tannins melting on the finish. With more concentration and less oak influence...

The Wine Advocate
90+ Points

The 2016 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle displays the most promising raw materials of any wine in the range, but it's also the most overtly oaky, with creamy vanillin and spice occluding its plummy fruit and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample, layered and deep, but for now the wood makes it hard to read.

Formerly known as the Croix des Vérillats, the 2016 Moulin-à-Vent Les Vérillats unfurls in the glass with notes of plummy, spicy fruit and creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with melting tannins and creditable concentration and acidity given the difficult year, concluding with a wood-inflected finish.

The bright cherry nose leads into a medium-bodied palate that’s appealingly juicy with just a hint of slightly sappy tannin underlining it. Drink now.

Fragrant and complex, this is a sophisticated Moulin-à-Vent that’s got good structure, as well as well plenty of sour cherries. The touch of tannin at the finish is already well integrated. Drink or hold.
