Château du Moulin-à-Vent
Croix des Vérillats, Moulin-à-Vent – 2016

Formerly known as the Croix des Vérillats, the 2016 Moulin-à-Vent Les Vérillats unfurls in the glass with notes of plummy, spicy fruit and creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with melting tannins and creditable concentration and acidity given the difficult year, concluding with a wood-inflected finish.

The bright cherry nose leads into a medium-bodied palate that’s appealingly juicy with just a hint of slightly sappy tannin underlining it. Drink now.

Fragrant and complex, this is a sophisticated Moulin-à-Vent that’s got good structure, as well as well plenty of sour cherries. The touch of tannin at the finish is already well integrated. Drink or hold.

Still a bit closed on the nose, this rather firmly structured Moulin-à-Vent needs some time to open up and for the tannins to resolve. Powerful finish. Better from 2020.

This joyful and elegant Moulin-à-Vent has very effusive, ripe cherry and mulberry aromas. Juicy and vivid with a long, mineral finish. Drink or hold.

Bright and attractive strawberries on the nose. Has a very smooth, red cherry and raspberry core, as well as cassis and licorice. Very soft and approachable. Drink now.

Blend of several parcels. All terroirs vinified separately. They use tall and rather narrow 50-hl tanks so that they have a deeper cap. 10% aged in barrel. Mid purple crimson. Lightly floral and expressive but also a fine dark dusty note. Bright and juicy and very fresh. Very fine texture, the tannins there but almost invisible. Light spice and pepper. Dark red fruit. Tight and juicy and lively dark-red fruit. Dark tangy finish.

Greyish crimson. Much more dusty/rocky mineral aroma than their blended Moulin-à-Vent; dark finesse, dark fruit without sweetness. Wine opens up more quickly than the other single site wines. Almost austere in its freshness and dry texture, paper-fine but upright. Lightly peppery.

Greyish crimson. Peppery freshness and elegance. The oak much less marked than on the Champs de Cour. Peppery freshness. Really delicate and refined dark rocky fruit. Long, fresh, dry finish. Scented in a lovely dry, dark way.

Crafted from 40-year-old Gamay vines, this Beaujolais wine is richly perfumed with top notes of cherry and a thin wire of spice from beginning to end. Mineral and clay soils lend this wine its expressive concentrated flavor profile. An elegant example of the impressive efforts (in the vineyards and the cellar) of the Parinet Family, who purchased the property in 2009...

"This wine that comes from three different parcels has an open style, ripe with berries and rich flavors. The style is rich and concentrated, with a solid core of tannins. This wine could well age, and it will be best from 2019."

"...you’ll find an ambitious wine with deep flavors, and a structure that provides both stature and grace. The beefy, beety, syrah-like fruit is potent and lasting, while mineral tannins lend it direction and detail. Built to cellar.”
