Wilson Daniels Team Spotlight: Angela Bartolai

In our Wilson Daniels Team Spotlight, we take a look at the team members that make this biz what it is. Get to know Angela Bartolai, Mid-Western Division Vice President, who is based out of Chicago and leads sales in the entire Midwest.

WHAT YOU WERE DOING BEFORE WILSON DANIELS: I worked as a Regional Manager at Clicquot Inc., now MOËT HENNESSY USA, covering the Midwest (based out of Chicago). Prior to that I was with Niebaum-Coppola Winery as a Regional Manager covering the Midwest.

WHAT DO YOU DO? I work with my team and with our distributor partners to market our brands to the trade and to the consumer in an authentic and strategic manner.  We are constantly striving to bring the individual stories and personalities of each of our supplier partners/wineries to the market to represent them with the utmost integrity while educating the market about their respective wineries. We consistently work as ambassadors of Wilson Daniels, in the market and with our distributors, whether through market work, education, or trade/consumer events, while simultaneously working with and guiding our distributor partners to achieve sales and revenue goals.

This industry is relationship-driven and I am fortunate to work with the most amazing team in the Midwest and the National Team at Wilson Daniels, as well as incredible people within our distributor network and in the trade, all of whom I respect, admire, and learn from daily.

WHAT GOT YOU INTO WINE? DID YOU ALWAYS HAVE A PASSION FOR IT? It was a total accident. I was intending to go to law school and I needed to find a job in the interim. I got a job as an Account Development Manager covering three states in the Midwest for a supplier that represented 8 – 10 domestic and international wineries. I was fascinated by the energy, the people, the wine, and the travel. I quickly became hooked on the industry and never left.

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR FAVORITE EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH WILSON DANIELS? I have had many memorable experiences with Wilson Daniels but my favorites have been the trips to France, Italy, and California to visit our supplier partners, their families, and their wineries. These trips have given me a much more real understanding of what each of them individually are trying to accomplish, the history of the regions, their stories, and their passion for what they do.

WHO IS YOUR MENTOR? I have been lucky to have worked with so many smart and talented people at Wilson Daniels, and in my career in the wine industry, that have mentored, taught, and inspired me, whether knowingly or unknowingly. I have also been blessed to have several personal mentors and role models, including my grandmother, my aunt, my dad, and my four older brothers who have all taught me persistence, hard work, the importance of constantly learning and having a sense of humor about life. On a daily basis today my role models are my two sons. They teach me authenticity, integrity, patience, gratitude and living in the moment; they inspire me to try to do better and be better every day.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE DRINK THAT *ISN’T* WINE? Sparkling mineral water and green tea.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WINE? Burgundy, Barolo, and bubbly.

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT, YOU KNOW, WHEN NOT IN THE OFFICE? Anywhere on the ocean or sea…so peaceful.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME? Exercise in any way possible and have new experiences with family and friends.

WHAT WOULD YOUR COLLEAGUES BE SURPRISED TO KNOW? I’m a Dead Head (have seen them in concert more times than I care to share), and, no, my favorite color is not black (!); my favorite shows are The Golden Girls and Seinfeld; and I’m a total tomboy at heart having grown up with four older brothers.
