Champagne Delamotte - Non-Vintage Rosé, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
"The NV Brut Rose is a sinewy, taut wine laced with perfumed, energetic fruit. As delicious as the wine is, it is also clearly deeply informed by the Chardonnay of Mesnil, and I really wonder about the rationale behind a rose from a village that is so famous for its Chardonnays. To be sure, Delamotte’s rose is a pretty, harmonious wine, but at the top level, there is simply too much competition from houses with vineyards better suited to making top-class rose." - Antonio Galloni

"The 1999 Brut Blanc de Blancs is a beautifully nuanced wine. Here the Chardonnay speaks with notable eloquence, often drawing parallels with the wines of Burgundy. The mousse is exceptionally finessed and the wine offers great depth as well as richness. The essence of crushed rocks, smoke and minerals are layered beautifully in the polished finish." - Antonio Galloni

"Light yellow. Spicy lemon and lime aromas are complicated by ginger and talc, with a suave floral quality gaining strength in the glass. Fresh and energetic, offering racy citrus and pear flavors that are strikingly pure and mineral-driven. One of the brightest and most lithe examples of this cuvee that I've had in recent years and reminiscent of the elegant versions I remember from the late 1980s and early 1990s." - Josh Raynolds

"Pale, orange-pink. Musky red berry and blood orange aromas show an earthy, smoky character and are complemented by notes of herbs and anise. Bitter cherry and red berry skin flavors are a bit rough-hewn, but nicely braced by dusty minerals. A more powerful wine than the Brut but doesn't possess that wine's vivacity or elegance. The finish repeats the blood orange note and lingers with good persistence." - Josh Raynolds

"If Valentine's Day will incline you to splurge on a bottle of pink Champagne, you'll have a tough time finding a more delicious option than this wine without spending considerably more money. This shows wonderful balance between its substantial side (relatively rich fruit with an engaging, fruity sweetness) and its more delicate dimension (very soft, fine-grained effervescence and bright, refreshing acidity). The yeast notes are very subtle, which enables the wine to remain very fresh and fruity, yet there's nothing obvious about it, as nice little nuances of bread dough and nuts are evident as pleasant backnotes." - Michael Franz

Champagne Delamotte - Non-Vintage Brut, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
"Richly toasty, showing hints of brioche dough and French toast on the nose, then delivering toast, apple and citrus flavors in a medium-weight format. Finishes dry, crisp and lemony. A solid choice in NV brut."

"Copper-pink. Earthy and rich on the nose, suggesting toffee, caramel and cherry, with a smoky, musky overlay. Fat and round in the mouth, showing good density and richness. Has a sweet, dark berry flavor profile but assertive acids add brightness and focus. Crisp, zesty and long on the back, with lingering cherry pit flavor."

Champagne Delamotte - Non-Vintage Brut, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
Delamotte is sometimes wrongly called the second wine of Salon. While it is true that lots of Salon that do not go into the grand vin make their way into Delamotte, Salon is Chardonnay, while Delamotte is also half Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier. The wine is elegant and light with long vanilla flavors in the mouth and on the finish and just a touch of sweetness to this sweet-discerning palate.

A bouquet of baked apples, pear and burnt brown sugar kicks it off. Next comes a soft palate of pineapple, papaya and lemon, and then a finish of apples and white pepper. Lovely flavors and plenty of depth push it forward.

Quite ripe fruit. Quite broad style, full and good mealy Pinot fruit. More of a food wine.

Here is a Pinot-dominated blend which offers elegant, textural, expansive flavors. Multidimensional and poised, it pushes Pinot to the fore, which brings extra fruit intensity and hints of fresh red berries. The finish is crisp and lingering.
