Champagne Delamotte
Non-Vintage Rosé, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
All of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes that go into the Rosé come from grand cru vineyards. The Pinot Noir is sourced from vineyards located in the Montagne de Reims area northeast of Epernay, in the villages of Bouzy, Ambonnay and Tours-sur-Marne. The Chardonnay is from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Delamotte also inherits the wine produced but not used by Salon—in years when a Salon vintage is not declared, this amounts to the entire harvest. Delamotte’s vineyards and those of its suppliers receive special care in order to maintain Delamotte’s high standards. A close cooperation, developed over decades of working together, ensures that all vineyard work is done with the ultimate goal of growing the best grapes possible.
Delamotte’s grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted by people who have been working with the company for years. In order to produce the highest-quality must, Delamotte presses its grapes using the Wilmes compressed air system. Champagne Delamotte Brut Rosé is a wine made by the traditional saignée method, extracting color and complexity from the skins during fermentation. This method is rarely used in Champagne because it is a difficult one, however, it brings elegance and structure to the wine. Unlike Salon, malolactic fermentation does occur with Delamotte wines. Riddling is performed entirely by hand for Delamotte Rosé. Delamotte disgorges every three to four months.
The balance between the Pinot Noir and the Chardonnay in the Delamotte Rosé gives this wine its beautiful pale rose color. The wine has tiny bubbles with strong red fruit aromas and flavors. It is vivacious, supple and round with good acidity. The ideal serving temperature for the Delamotte Rosé is between 46.4 and 50 degrees. It makes a wonderful apéritif, as well as a good companion to poultry dishes or red fruit desserts.
