2008 Old Vine Zinfandel, Napa Valley
The vineyard sources for our 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel are the Blue Ridge and Morgan vineyards on Mt. Vaca and the Godward Vineyard in Calistoga. Mt. Vaca, the highest peak of the Vaca range, forms the eastern border of the Napa Valley. The fruit concentration from these mountain and century-old, valley-floor vineyards ensures our Old Vine Zinfandel has rich flavor extraction, a fruit-forward palate and wonderful layers of complexity from multiple soil types.
The grapes were hand sorted and crushed to stainless-steel fermenters. Pump-overs were done as gently as possible to avoid undesirable harsh tannin extraction. The juice was pressed at dryness to 85 percent French and 15 percent American oak with a composition of 40 percent new oak for both barrel types.
Our 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel is a medium-bodied wine of lush, well-integrated tannins and crisp, bright acidity. The aroma/flavor profile includes Kirsch, raspberry preserves, red licorice, and dark plums with subtle notes of tobacco, dried hay and cedar.
