Definition of Perrières
Stone quarries. The winery is located on Chemin des Perrières—a road that once led to a stone quarry.
Composition: Carignan: 12.4 acres, Syrah: 11.1 acres, Grenache: 7.4 acres
Location: Costières Hill (gentle slopes)
Vine Age: Carignan: 80 years, Syrah and Grenache: 35 years
Soil: Well-drained; ferruginous earth composed of gravel from Rhône River, (limestone, silica, flint, sandstone)
Very hot (70-degree mornings, 85-degree afternoons) and beautiful weather during the harvest. On September 5 there was rain, but the risk to the vines was minimized since harvest was finishing that day.
Harvest Dates: August 29–September 5
Aging: 9 months in large concrete tanks, 1 year in seasoned oak barrels
Aromas of blackcurrant, morello cherry and mint, very concentrated; in the mouth, there is good complexity and depth, with outstanding freshness for this appellation; tannins present but not aggressive; excellent length.
